Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Hands-on experience of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc
  • Ability to troubleshoot CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention
  • Hands-on experience of indexes, index management, and statistics
  • Cloud experience with preferably Microsoft Azure
  • Knowledge of other database server technologies is an advantage
  • Knowledge of cloud and cloud native database server technologies is an advantage
  • Desirable hands-on experience in Database Administration in SQL Server
  • Desirable hands-on experience of SQL Server Always-On Availability Groups
  • Awareness of NoSQL databases is an advantage
  • Desirable SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
  • Strong problem-solving techniques
  • Desirable knowledge of 3rd party DBA tools and applications

Education and Experience
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Experience of customer installations and project deployments
  • Certification is a plus; MCTS, MCITP, MVP
  • DBA experience desirable

What is the role
To provide technical services internally to the IMS MAXIMS Service Desk, Delivery teams and the Business ︁︀​︂︃︃​︈︁​︁︉︂Development team, and externally to our customer base

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and services for:
    • The Delivery teams (customer projects, installations)
    • The Service Desk (new software releases/upgrades)
    • Customers (support services, troubleshooting, problem-solving)
  • Ensure Project deadlines and releases are met by meeting own deadlines and milestones
  • Take ownership of issues and processes to resolve
  • Provide assistance to testers and support personnel as needed to determine system problems
  • Support fellow team members with problems they may experience day to day
  • Manage Schema changes between product release versions
  • Perform MAXIMS software installations and upgrades
  • Develop Warranted Environment Specifications to support new opportunities
  • Continuously work with the Technical Services Manager to implement formal feedback mechanisms for incidents, causes and resolutions
  • Desirable: commission Server on cloud infrastructure, to support the deployment and development of the IMS MAXMS software solutions
  • Commission backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, and failover on both cloud infrastructure and on-premises
  • Performance Tuning and Optimisation (PTO)
  • Test and validate commissioned solutions
  • Daily management of Server databases environments from development environments to mission-critical production systems
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security
  • Apply database best practices and techniques to ensure deployment and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
  • Create and employ security and access methods for production environments using the principle of least privilege.
  • Writing documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  • Measure everything, forecast outcomes, and proactively work to alleviate failures and sub-par performance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve internal and customer database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, document and communicate changes
  • Design, implementation and deliver support documentation
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and production issue resolution
  • Analyse database activity and identify opportunities to optimise MAXIMS solutions
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
  • Define, develop, and maintain SQL code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
  • Manage schema and data migration changes between MAXIMS product release versions
  • Submit database design proposals for the long-term technical and architectural direction of the MAXIMS product.
  • Provide feedback to analysis/training staff about performance considerations/usability issues concerning any aspect of the DB design and implementation
  • Develop database utilities
  • Identify and communicate proactively technical problems and opportunities to the team and the stakeholders
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Continuously seek to improve the services provided by Technical Services
  • Evaluate and recommend new database technologies
  • Participate in sales and pre-sales processes in the in the identification of capacity and performance requirements for DB servers
  • Ensure all quality and people processes are adhered to
  • Develop and maintain internal cross-team communication channels to ensure “joined up” services internally
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems
