Position Requirements:
EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school required.

EXPERIENCE: Four years of previous work experience in travel and/or tourism, at least one of which should be in fare calculation, ticketing or U.S. Government travel arranging.

LANGUAGE: Fluent English and Fluent Romanian is required. This may be tested.

Skills And Abilities: Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with host country officials, U.S. citizen personnel, VIP visitors, an travel industry contacts. Strong organizational skills required and the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a high degree of focus on detail. Word processing required, with high degree of accuracy.

Job Description

Basic Function of the Position:
  • Under the technical supervision of the Supervisory General Services Officer (SGSO), the Travel Assistant provides timely, accurate, and professional travel arrangements for both domestic and international travel of embassy staff, visiting officials, and other personnel.
  • Additionally, the Travel Assistant serves as a key point of contact for travel-related inquiries, advising both contractors and embassy personnel on compliance with State Department travel policies, including those outlined in the Federal Travel Regulations (FTR), Foreign Affairs Manual (FAM), and Department of State Travel Policy.
  • The Travel Assistant plays a critical role in managing the embassy's travel operations to ensure smooth, efficient, and policy-compliant travel for mission personnel.
  • This position serves as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for the Travel Management Center (TMC) contract, responsible for oversight, contract performance monitoring, and ensuring the TMC meets all agreed service standards and embassy travel requirements.
