Job Description

Starting Date: August 1st 2024

The Secondary School Arts Technician is responsible for supporting the day-to-day implementation of the Arts curriculum and co-curricular programs. They work in close conjunction with Arts teachers, Theatre Technician, Design Technician and Learning Leaders in order to assist in the functioning of the departments through teaching practice, supporting student work, preparing and maintaining materials, equipment and workspaces.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
■ Liaising with academic staff to discuss timetables, equipment requirements and work plans;
■ Working with theatre technician on performing arts related events and productions;
■ Working with art machinery to prepare materials;
■ Working with performing arts equipment and instruments to support teaching and learning;
■ Knowledge and experience with instrument maintenance and repairs (tuning drum kits and guitars, changing
strings, etc);
■ Facilitating major instrument repairs with outside contractors;
■ Ensuring equipment is properly cleaned and materials are appropriately stored;
■ Supporting the work of teachers in classes and giving technical advice to staff and students;
■ Working with individual students and supporting them on projects;
■ Ensuring that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly;
■ Coordinating work to ensure efficient use is made of equipment;
■ Keeping a current inventory and basic maintenance of equipment;
■ Managing displays: helping hanging and taking down student artwork for continuous exhibits, and promotion
materials for the performing arts;
■ Facilitate the purchase of production materials, (utilizing local market resources);
■ Liaison: cultural events relevant to the community;
■ Video recording of events.
