Ideal Candidate
- PhD, or a Master's degree and experience in CS, CE, ML or related field
- Experience in building models for business application
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience using Unix/Linux
- Experience in professional software development

Key job responsibilities
As an applied scientist on our team, you will apply the appropriate technologies and best practices to autonomously solve difficult problems. You'll contribute to the science solution design, run experiments, research new algorithms, and find new ways of optimizing customer experience. Besides theoretical analysis and innovation, you will work closely with talented engineers and ML scientists to put your algorithms and models into practice. You will collaborate with partner teams including engineering, PMs, data annotators, and other scientists to discuss data quality, policy, and model development. Your work will directly impact the trust customers place in Amazon Privacy, globally.

Opened in 2005, Amazon’s Development Center in Iasi was Amazon’s first R&D facility in Eastern Europe. It plays a major role in the city’s burgeoning tech industry, employing skilled experts who are inventing exciting new technologies in the fields of Cloud Computing, Information Security, Machine Learning and Data Analysis.
The Center is also known for the business teams who manage programs for our Retail, Compliance, employing associates, specialists and program managers across Retail Business Services, Compliance Operations, Digital Imaging Services and Amazon Creative Services.
In 2017 a second corporate presence was established in Romania’s capital. The Amazon Development Center Bucharest is home to Speech and Language Solutions for Alexa, Alexa Product Testing, as well as Amazon Web Services (AWS) teams working on key technologies for the Elastic Cloud Computing (EC2) service.
